Gross Burn vs Net Burn

Gross Burn is purely how much money leaves the bank account every single month. If you have 10 engineers who cost $10k/mo each, your Gross Burn is exactly $100,000. It measures your absolute fixed operational liability layer.

Net Burn is the holy metric. Net Burn factors in incoming customer revenue. If your Gross Expenses are $130,000, but customers pay you $30,000, your Net Burn is precisely $100,000. This is the exact sum of raw oxygen your corporation consumes every 30 days simply to maintain existence.

The Runway Mathematics

If you raised $1.5M from investors, and your Net Burn is $100k, you have exactly 15 Months of Runway. The corporation physically ceases to exist in 15 months. The servers turn off and the employees are immediately legally fired.
